Feeding Frenzies and Fire Fungi

After the bushfires in the Huon Valley this year, I decided I would try to monitor the variety and abundance of fire loving fungi appearing within nearby burnt Eucalyptus nitens plantation. Since March 2019, two adjacents burnt plots are being monitored, approximately 500 square metres each and with slightly different aspects - as one plot gets more direct sun than the other. The two plots appear so far to be hosting different varieties of fire fungi - plot A seems to have a greater variety and abundance than plot B. However plot B shows evidence of underground truffle-like fungi from discarded remains leftover after the native animals have had a good feed!
